TESCO TOKEN PRIZE

Orkney Drugs Dog charity receives a £4,000 boost from Tesco’s Bags of Help.

During the months of March and April customers of the Kirkwall store showed their overwhelming support for this newly formed local charity.

Chair of Orkney Drugs Dog, Andrew Drever said “As a relatively newly formed charity, we are delighted with the support shown towards us from businesses and the community.  It was amazing to see the mass of tokens build up day after day and I thank Tesco and their customers for their massive support whilst acknowledging the other two charities who also do an enormous amount of work within our community.  We are grateful to Groundworks, the agency who organise the process on Tesco’s behalf, and were really pleased when we heard that we had been awarded a £4,000 boost.”

Andrew went on to say “As a next step, we are preparing to advertise the post of our Dog Handler in mid-July and hope to have a strong base of candidates to appoint from.  We aim to appoint at the end of August.  Our search for a suitable dog is on and is being assisted by Police Scotland, with whom we are building a strong working relationship, and we hope to be in a position of taking ownership of a dog by October.  This £4,000 will go directly towards funding the aims and operations of our charity.”
